Doctoral programme

The doctoral programme is based on the development of competences essential from the perspective of a beginning researcher and academic teacher. The doctoral students conduct research in a research team or individually, under the supervision of a PhD supervisor and tutors. They participate in classes that develop key competences, prepares grant applications, and through publications, scientific conferences and internships, they join the international scientific community. Each doctoral student who does not yet have a doctoral degree receives a scholarship.

In the field of the arts, admission is carried out in the following disciplines:

  • film and theatre,
  • music,
  • fine arts and art conservation.

Qualification criteria

Stage 1, Criterion 1 - Draft research project

(up to 12,000 characters including spaces, excluding bibliography/references)

 

The project should include:

  • research objective and problem/artistic concept (clarity, originality, critical reflection; max. 5 points)
  • significance for the discipline/innovativeness (originality, potential contribution to the artistic or methodological discourse; maximum 4 points)
  • plan of creative activities, schedule, and feasibility (stages of artistic activities/production; timeline; planned venues for presentation; max. 3 points)
  • methodology/approach to documenting or presenting results (practical methods—workshops, studio work, experiments, analysis; method of evaluating outcomes — exhibition, concert, film screening, publication, digital archive; max. 2 points)
  • Bibliography and theoretical framework (adequacy of sources, references to practices and theory; min. 10, max. 30 items; max. 1 point)

Stage 1, Criterion 2 - Portfolio/artistic work

Evidence of completion: links, documentation, reviews, catalogues, or recordings

Points: 0-10

Stage 1, Criterion 3 - Artistic achievements and experience

Festivals, exhibitions, concerts, films, study visits, grants, residencies, awards, international collaborations, etc.

Points: 0-5

Weight: 1

Stage 2 - Admission interview

The interview shall consist of two parts: a discussion with the committee and a portfolio presentation.

The assessment takes into account:

  • presentation and defence of the project (defence of the concept, methodology, and feasibility of the plan) 
  • portfolio presentation
  • academic and artistic aptitude
  • level of English

How to calculate the final score 

The final result shall correspond to the result of the second stage. If several candidates achieve the same score, their position on the ranking list shall be determined by the total points obtained in the first and second stages.
