Course description

The class aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the role of banks in the modern economy and financial system. Students will explore the structure of banking systems, key banking operations, and the concept of banking risk. A historical overview of banks will be presented, followed by an analysis of the 2008 financial crisis and its comparison with the COVID-19 economic crisis 2020. Additionally, students will examine banking systems in different countries, identifying key differences and regulatory approaches. The class will also cover European Union banking regulations, offering insights into their impact on financial stability and market integration.

During the class, we will analyze the concept of a bank and its role in the modern economy and financial system, as well as the structure of the banking system. The history of banks will be briefly presented, and the concept of banking risk will be discussed. The basic concepts of banking operations and banking activities will be explained. We will discuss the causes, course, and effects of the financial crisis 2008 and subsequent years. It will be compared with the COVID-19 economic crisis of 2020. Then, we will present the banking systems of individual countries, focusing on the differences between the concepts. European Union rules are going to be discussed as well.

 

Evaluation:

The final grade will be determined based on two main factors: actively participating in class and engaging in academic discussions, which will be rewarded with points (50% of the final grade), and preparing a presentation on a topic agreed upon with the instructor (50% of the final grade).
